Regent’s Park House

This handsome, five-storey Georgian house is situated on Albert Street in the Borough of Camden, moments from Regent’s Park.

History & Design Brief

Over its 200-year history, the property had been heavily altered. Having previously served as a nursery and most recently converted into a House of Multiple Occupation (HMO) with eight bedrooms, these considerable changes had unfortunately resulted in the loss of many of the building’s original architectural details.

Our brief was to reinstate the property as a luxurious single-family home, establishing a principal kitchen and formal dining room across the first-floor spaces. The house needed to offer some flexibility to accommodate extended family during frequent visits. The lower ground and top floors can therefore be used with a degree of independence, with each featuring additional kitchens.

Two-Storey Rear Extension

A contemporary two-storey rear extension was designed to provide generous additional living and dining spaces. Internally, these new spaces are finished with rotary cut and flatsawn douglas fir ceilings throughout. more

To respect the heritage of the Georgian property, a newly formed courtyard lightwell deliberately separates the modern extension from the main house, restoring the historic rear facade to nearer its original condition.

Interior Design

The interior design carefully balances modern craftsmanship with historic restoration. The first floor features exposed original floorboards, alongside refurbished period details. A new principal kitchen with bespoke joinery is crafted from green terrazzo and natural oak.

Street Facade

To complete the exterior transformation and return the property to its former appearance, decorative wrought ironwork balustrades and a traditional period front door were faithfully reinstated to the front elevation.
