Hackney Fashion Studio

This showroom was developed for Concrete Studio, a fashion agency in east London. A flexible retail space on the ground floor accommodates a number of distinct brands. In the basement, a new workspace and design studio are provided.

The design was informed by the apparent contrast between fashion and architecture; where architecture is led by the desire for permanence, and fashion driven by constant change and renewal. A series of interlocking display stands are imagined as an excavated ruin, a reminder of the impossibility of architectural permanence.

A textured, composite concrete board is used throughout. This single material unifies the space whilst concealing storage cupboards, a meeting area and existing services. Pivoting openings in the wall linings allow access at key locations for temporary displays and photoshoots.
