Brook Green House

This refurbishment and two-storey rear extension to a house in Brook Green, London W14 transforms a previously constrained property into a generous, light-filled home for living, dining and entertaining.

The project reworks both the lower ground and first floors to create a coherent family house with improved flow, natural light and connection to the garden.

Lower Ground Floor

Historically, the lower ground floor suffered from low ceiling heights, poor natural light and awkward access from the floor above. The circulation was convoluted, with a series of narrow corridors and small cellular rooms that limited how the space could be used.

The new design opens up this level into a flexible, open-plan living space. A carefully detailed timber stair now descends through a newly created double-height void, forming a dramatic and welcoming entrance to the lower ground floor.

The entire lower ground floor is finished in robust end-grain parquet blocks, adding warmth, texture and a sense of crafted detail underfoot. Timber-framed sliding doors span the rear elevation, framing views of the garden and allowing the living spaces to spill outside during warmer months.

Garden Design

The rear garden has been redesigned to complement the new architecture. It is newly landscaped in Portland Roach stone, chosen for its natural fossil fragments.

First-Floor Master Suite

On the first floor, the layout has been reconfigured to create a generous master suite. This suite includes a spacious bedroom, a dressing room and an ensuite bathroom, all designed as a coherent private retreat within the house.

Joinery

Full-height doors and cupboards are used throughout this level, accentuating the tall ceilings and creating clean, elegant lines. Storage is integrated discreetly, allowing the rooms to remain uncluttered while still being highly practical for everyday use.

Douglas fir joinery runs consistently through the project, from the staircase to the fitted furniture. This unified material palette gives the home a calm, cohesive feel, while subtle variations in timber cut and grain introduce richness and depth.
