Hackney House extension

Rear extension and renovation of listed Georgian Hause in Hackney
This project is an extension and renovation of a Grade II listed Georgian house on Cassland Road in Hackney. The house is within a grand terrace, built in the late 18th century. The terrace suggests a single large country house with a central pediment that has garlands and a coat of arms. Original details to the front of the house include gauged flat brick arches over sash windows.
A rear extension at lower ground floor provides a new dining room overlooking a sunken courtyard. Soaped timber and lime washed brick finishes create a calming, restrained space within the extension. These two materials continue into the external landscape, linking the dining room with the garden.
An original curved bay is retained, and encloses the kitchen in the rear reception room of the house. The rest of the property is to be sensitively refurbished. The first floor master bedroom will benefit from a new en-suite, designed as a secret timber lined bathroom pod to minimise impact on the historic fabric and plan form.
