Architecture for London has completed an initial design session for an extension to an early Victorian terraced house in Clapton, east London.

The house will be extended into the side return to create a large open plan kitchen and dining space, with an improved connection to the garden. A new kitchen with sprayed navy blue cabinetry will be contrasted with an island unit completely clad in polished brass. The island is framed by a light pink decorative marble slab set into the floor, surrounded by a solid timber herringbone parquet.

An additional loft storey is proposed within a new mansard roof, to create a generous master suite in addition to a smaller loft bedroom over the rear outrigger. At first floor, the bathroom and bedroom are to be reconfigured to make better use of the limited space available to the rear of the plan.

The existing house retains many early Victorian features, including a flat front elevation, an elegant stair and decorative plasterwork internally.
