About

This project is a refurbishment and extension of a Grade II listed Georgian house in Islington. The proposed 3 storey rear extension features a contemporary glass box at lower ground floor. At raised ground and first floors, the rear elevation of the extension is detailed traditionally to preserve the appearance of the terrace from the adjacent street. However, at the ‘concealed’ flank wall, contemporary sliding glass panels are introduced. These maximise natural light and views of the garden while providing access to the upper terrace.

A nanny suite is created from part of the lower ground floor, and the original coal vault is excavated to provide new internal space for a bathroom. The first floor is reconfigured to allow a generous master suite with bathroom and dressing room, and at second floor both bedrooms are reconfigured with en-suites. Original period details are to be refurbished throughout the house and reinstated where these have been lost.

Planning and listed building consents have been received and works are due to start on site in 2015.
