Planning application

AFL were appointed as consultants for the refurbishment of an office building within the Bloomsbury Conservation Area. The original Georgian building had been rebuilt following bomb damage and the property was divided into several offices over 5 floors.
The office spaces were redesigned to allow for a more rational layout and existing suspended ceilings removed to expose the full height of the sash windows to the front of the building. The brief specified an upgrade of all services throughout the building, including air conditioning. Additionally, there was a requirement to bring in more natural light to the basement via new roof lights at ground floor level.
A new opening was designed to the rear at ground floor level to create access to a private terrace. The plant and equipment room was relocated from this level to the top of the building following an acoustic assessment of the conditions on site.
The sensitive design of the proposals allowed Camden Council to approve the planning application without any issues.
