Planning received for Islington extension and basement
AFL have received planning consents for this rear and side extension, basement and loft conversion to a Victorian house in Islington. Together the proposals add an additional 80 square metres of internal space to create a large family home.
The new kitchen features oak joinery, marble worktops and limestone strip flooring. The rear elevation is fully glazed with three aluminium framed sliding doors, providing unobstructed views of the large garden. A recessed head detail allows the glass to continue to the very top of the facade. The glass is enclosed by two 300mm wide vertical strips of marble cladding to match the kitchen.
To the side return a glass box protrudes from the roof by 1.5 metres to create a tall volume in the kitchen below. The height in the extension is further improved by lowering and levelling the kitchen and garden floors. Exposed brick is retained inside the raised glass box. A contemporary chandelier featuring a cloud of LED lights weaves its way through the raised glass box toward the garden.
The proposed basement contains an additional family bathroom, a large utility and a storage room. Natural light is provided by a walk-on glass roof light adjacent to the bay window at the front of the house. Floor to ceiling heights in the basement are relatively generous at over 2.5 metres.
