Contemporary house by Powell Tuck Architects
This house features exposed London stock brickwork and polished concrete floors for a slight industrial feel, yet this is softened with large rugs and colourful artwork that produce a calming, comfortable environment. Structure and materiality is expressed in the ceiling with exposed timber beams. The spaces beneath are orthogonal, and often enclosed, with compact courtyards or skylights providing the only source of natural light. The architects have designed a kitchen in plywood and steel to continue the slight industrial feel, with blue coloured cabinets providing a focal point.
